We can only conclude that there is something wrong with all of us or are we missing something . Evolutionary theory [Dalby ,1986] ,posits that reading is an unnatural act, carried out by humans for an exceedingly brief period in our evolutionary history (Dalby, 1986). It has been less than a hundred years , since western societies promoted reading to the mass population , the forces that shape our behaviour have been weak , a cost in allocation of resources is implied . In 1990 , the emerging discipline of NLP , pioneers accelerated learning modeling , beginning a long journey ,introducing primary learning systems and slaves and encouraging corporate trainers to ask are you Visual kinesthetic or Auditory .

In 1997 Thomas G West publishes in his seminal book 'In The Minds Eye ' Introducing us to Visual Thinkers , Howard Gardner author of Multiple Intelligence Theory is quoted on the cover 'this book proves beyond doubt , that we are not all points on a single bell curve of intelligence '. In his book West exposes popular myth’s , notably questioning the premise that genius is always precocious by highlighting the troubled educational backgrounds of the shapers of our modern world , Einstein , Edison , Marconi , Churchill , Darwin , his inescapable conclusion his modern paradox whatever shaped these minds also made them less than perfect pupils . Pioneering Learning Styles research [Silverman] 2002 , The Visual Spatial Learner , highlights differences , tentatively placing dyslexia within a Visual-spatial learning styles context , and not the dominant auditory-sequential style .

In 2005 in a C4 documentary "The Dyslexia Myth" Julian Elliott questioned the conditions existence , by revealing research that literacy and IQ are not correlated .Drawing on years of intensive academic research on both sides of the Atlantic, it challenged the existence of dyslexia as a separate condition, and highlighted the many different forms of reading style. The documentary only focused on the reading difficulties that dyslexics encounter.

In 2007 John Everatt of the University of Surrey, also in the UK, demonstrated that dyslexic students can be distinguished from other children with low reading achievement by testing geared to assessing their strengths as well as weaknesses. Dyslexic children tend to score significantly better than other children, including non-impaired children, on tests of creativity, spatial memory, and spatial reasoning. Dyslexic children also perform better than other reading-impaired children on tests of vocabulary and listening comprehension. Everatt suggests that dyslexic children may be better served by educational intervention which includes strategies geared to their unique strengths in addition to skill remediation, and thus recommends more comprehensive evaluation and targeted interventions. Dyslexic children of course become teenagers and adults , with the same aptitudes and skill sets.

In February of 2008 the McGovern Institute for Brain Research , MIT, are awarded 8.5 MILLION dollars for ongoing autism and dyslexia research .
