Profile - Source [Autism society of America]Autism is a spectrum disorder. The symptoms and characteristics of autism can present themselves in a wide variety of combination's, from mild to severe. Although autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors, children and adults can exhibit any combination of the behaviors in any degree of severity. Two children, both with the same diagnosis, can act very differently from one another and have varying skills. You may hear different terms used for those within the spectrum, such as autistic-like, autistic tendencies, autism spectrum, high-functioning or low-functioning , more-abled or less-abled and Aspegers. More important than the term used is to understand that whatever the diagnosis, autistic does not mean can not learn or function productively . . Approximately 1 in 10 diagnosed with autism will have a savant aptitude which is 10 times the proportion in the general public . In High functioning and Aspergers what has been often been described as a highly visual spatial thinking style has proved beneficial to countless professors , software developers , mathematicians and engineers helping them to reach the very top of there chosen careers . 80 % of those diagnosed with autistic traits are male . While understanding of autism has grown tremendously since it was first described by Dr. Leo Kanner in 1943, most of the public, including many professionals in the medical, educational, and vocational fields, are still unaware of how autism affects people and how they can effectively work with individuals with autism. |

The system did not work for me nothing to do with effort or hard work it just did not work ,
well not very effeciently . I found out the hard way ,
I was never encouraged to step back , never offered an alternative .
life was not tragic , it just became incredibly unbalanced.
Inside the state education system
I was not an urgent priority .
Outside I made a pretty lousy bank clerk , if you wanted files sorting and alpabetising you were probably better off hiring a trained chimp
because you get by , nobody makes allowances .
Instead you are a politically acceptable whipping boy in a politically correct age , a target for pent up inverted prejudice and it drove me nuts . A few well chosen observations, some expert guidance and I would not of had years of my life wasted.
Research suggests 30% of the population are wired up for visual thought , within that group , there will be many , I include myself who get truly exceptional results , who have the overnight epiphany . You need to ask yourself why not me .What do you have to lose , the least , the least you can expect is a permanent boost to performance .What would that mean to you , perhaps another string to your bow an enhanced capability or maybe a gain of a just few percentage points . In terms of an examinations that could be the difference between success and failure , in 2 hours ! .
